I had the opportunity to attend the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) Student Regional Conference at UCLA and it was one of the best experiences of dental school so far! The conference, hosted by the UCLA, Western and USC HSDA chapters brought together over 150 students from across the country for a day of education, leadership, and networking.19 schools were represented and our UW chapter showed up loud and proud! Since recently reactivating our student chapter, this was the first year that UW has been able to attend the conference. Not only did 3 of our students win scholarships, we were also able to bring 12 students to UCLA, making us one of the largest groups there! It's safe to say that we put in the work to show our colleagues what we Huskies are all about!
The conference included an impressive agenda which included presentations by various voices in the Hispanic dental community. We learned about oral health disparities in the Hispanic community, how to prepare for residency and strategies for running a successful business. The conference was followed by a vibrant networking social on the top floor of Hotel Angeleno. Dental professionals and students came together to form meaningful connections that will hopefully last throughout our careers!
I'm so grateful to have been able to attend the HDA Student Regional Conference. I was able to meet so many incredible people from across the country and left feeling inspired to get more involved in our local chapter! I look forward to what the future has in store for UW HSDA and hope that we are able to inspire more students to get involved!
